Relation As Books Jeweler's Apprentice (Five Gems #1)
Fia Brithin is beginning an adventure. On her first visit to the King Hanor's palace, 16 year old Fia Brithin stumbles into a court intrigue. To keep the secret safe, the Chancelor sends her off as apprentice to a famous, and reclusive, high mountain jeweler.
...And straight into adventure.
Discovering gems with deep secrets and new friends with the same, Fia learns a whole lot more than just modeling wax. When to trust a stranger, and when not to; why not to try stealing from gem thieves; what heroism is, what royalty ought to be, and that the mountains themselves can sometimes be the greatest danger of all.
The first in a series, Jeweler's Apprentice introduces protagonist Fia Brithin to the wide, wide world, and starts her on a journey toward adventures, and that difficult thing called growing up.

Loved this book! It was sort of old-fashionedly written, and though it was all one story, at times it felt like a bunch of stories made into one. No magic and a clean moral story, perfect for a family reading book. One thing I didn't like (this is sort of a spoiler, but not really) is the main character thought she was very sensitive toward people (and for the most part Fia was) but when someone told her his brother was dead and he was very upset about it to the point of being angry Fia didn'tFirst a confession--I went into this book not quite prepared. I was expecting kingdom adventure rather than nonmagical fantasy, so the references to dwarves (as more of a race than just a physical characteristic) and particularly elves (not in the story but referenced in the history) came pretty close to the line of what I'm comfortable with. Again, my fault for not investigating a little more before I picked it up.I liked a number of the characters in this story, particularly the members of the
I enjoyed this story; it definitely was a good start. It was a little hard to keep track of some of the characters, but with Fia (the main character) having so many siblings, that's not surprising. The more I read, the more each person became separate in my mind. The story opens with a tense scene of Fia following some mysterious shadows through the garden. It hooked me immediately, wanting to discover the mystery along with Fia. More and more twists were revealed throughout the story, keeping me

This book was WAY better than anticipated. It's been on my reading list for 4 years but when it came right down to it, I couldn't get past the (original) cover. The premise sounded interesting enough where I never took it off my list but the solid minty green with huge lettering that took up every square inch of the cover except where a giant yellow gem was squashed between didn't exactly shout "READ ME!"When I decided to clear some books that'd been lingering on my list for awhile this was one
This was a nice story about a girl on an adventure. Fia is sent to be a jeweler's apprentice in the mountains. I felt cold reading this book talking about all the snow. I'm thankful to live in Texas. :)Fia meets some friends and enemies along the way. I couldn't help but wish to know the characters on a deeper level. I felt somewhat disconnected from the side characters for some reason. I really enjoy some hint of romance in a story too so I was a little disappointed, but I know that's just me.
I was excited to read this book, as its been on my TBR list for quite a while. What I Liked: There were definitely moments of exciting adventure that will especially intrigue younger readers. This was a very clean book and for that I greatly appreciate. So many books either have poor word choices in them or siblings that fight a lot, but this book didnt have that, which I greatly appreciated. This author also is very talented in description. What I Didnt Like: I really dont like giving books
