The Sacrifice
the sacrifice is not my favorite book ever, but its really good if you want to learn. the writer did a great job telling the story, the detail was something that if you close your eyes you can see it. The Sacrifice is an interesting piece of historical fiction about the Salem Witch Trials, they talk a lot about witches and if you want to learn about the Salem witch trial you should definitely read this book. this book is telling a true story making it even more interesting, reading The Sacrifice
At the outset, Abigail Faulkner, Reverend Danes 10 year old granddaughter is in the stocks for six hours with the sign SINNER pinned to her chest for running a footrace with her male cousin. Inspired by her family history, Ms. Duble spins a tale of when the witch-craze expands beyond Salem to Andover. Abigail and her sister Dorothy are accused of being witches, as is her aunt. It shows the hysteria and disbelief many were feeling and the helplessness to fight for their innocence. For her sister and her to survive, they must falsely accuse another...I read this in less than a day
A very good account of a family sucked into the witch hunts of Salem. Great descriptions of life at the time and of the conditions of the prison cells the accused were held in. Insight into how the jail was run and what the families went through. Very very readable - made me so glad of my warm bed and safe home!
2.5 stars rounded up. This was a super fast read...historically interesting and such a tragic topic. Whats neat is this is a historical fiction but it is very closely based on the authors ancestors stories during the Witch Trials in 1692. I just had a tough time feeling emotionally vested in the characters in the way I usually do. I will definitely read more books on this topic though.

In the year 1692, life changes forever for ten-year-old Abigail Faulkner and her family. In Salem, Massachusetts, witches have been found, and widespread fear and panic reign mere miles from Abigail's home of Andover. When two girls are brought from Salem to identify witches in Andover, suspicion sweeps the town as well-respected members of the community are accused of witchcraft. It isn't long before chaos consumes Andover, and the Faulkners find themselves in the center of it all when friend turns themselves in the center of it all when friend turns against friend, neighbor against neighbor, in a desperate fight for the truth. At the heart of this gripping story are Abigail and her sister, Dorothy, who together must find a way to persevere during a period marked by terror, adversity, and ignorance.Told from Abigail's point of view and based on actual events in the author's own family histoy, "The Sacrifice" offers a unique perspective of the Salem witch trials by delving into the devestating effects the trials had not just in Salem but throughout Massachusetts.Declare Out Of Books The Sacrifice

This is honestly a book that has changed my life. I first read The Sacrifice in 7th grade because we had to take a book out of the library for English class. I decided to get this one because I had always been interested in the Witch Trials and it took place in my hometown. When I got to class and we started reading our books I found myself hooked. I was drawn into to my own town but 300 years in the past. When the bell rang for the next class I hated having to stop reading.
