I do love me some historical fiction when it's been done well and despite some minor things, this was done well. From the description, I was a little worried the book would focus too much on romance but that was fortunately not the case.World War II has come to Farleigh Place and affects everyone, whether they like it or not. Lord Westerham can't help but complain about the lack of decent food and petrol. His wife seems to have the uncanny ability to pretend nothing has changed at all.
At the outset I would have rated the book three stars, but it improved to four over the course of the novel. My initial dislike was because of the characters. I would think that the author, being British herself, would be embarrassed to portray the English as such dithering idiots. She has every stock character -- the blustering Lord, his simpering wife, the vapid daughters, the reckless bad boy. The lower class isn't spared, either -- they are mainly portrayed as "thick as bricks." War with
'In Farleigh Field' tells the story of several characters in England in the midst of WWII. Friendships are tested. Emotions and betrayals run deep. Many hard lessons are learned.Of all the characters, Ben and Pamela were my favorites. Ben was the "nice guy" that is friend-zoned. He has always loved Pamela, but
