Catherine is the second Bronte retelling by April Lindner for teens. This book is a contemporary reimagining of Emily Bronte's masterpiece Wuthering Heights. After reading Jane this week I was excited to see what she would do with Wuthering Heights, which is my preferred book of the two. I was not disappointed one bit.Chelsea is the 17 year old daughter of Catherine, the heroine of Lindner and Bronte. Chelsea always thought her mother died when she was three years old. When she unearths a letterWhat intrigued me about Hence wasnt his looks. It was his intensity- the dark hunger in his eyes- coupled with that hurt look of his, the way he had of averting his glance as though hes been kicked hard by someone he trusted and didnt dare let his guard down. I knew he must have stories to tell about the past he was fleeing and the future hed plan for himself. As much as the author says she loves Wuthering Heights, I dont believe her. Mainly because in her retelling, she completely overlooked

This novel by April Lindner was written, of course, as an adaptation to Wuthering Heights which I am sure most of you already know. Let me first say that I have not read Wuthering Heights so I cannot make any comparison between this book and that one. In Wuthering Heights, the novel Lindner oh-so-loosely bases her adaptation on, Heathcliff's a sociopathic bastard and Catherine Earnshaw...well, calling her a bitch doesn't even really begin to cover it, does it? Somehow culturally Heathcliff manages to get remembered as a Byronic romantic hero, but Cathy's one of the most roundly hated female characters in English literature. Catherine by author April Lindner is a modern retelling of Emily Brontës forbidden romance Wuthering Heights. I was cautious about the novel simply because I havent read Wuthering Heights, ever. Ive never really had a thing for the classics.
